ABOUT THE WINNER
PORTIA SELORM DZAMVIVIE
Portia Selorm Dzamvivie is a graduate of the University of Education Winneba, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Graphic Design. She later volunteered on the Voluntary Service Overseas International Citizenship program (VSO-ICS) Ghana, where she worked together with a team of UK and Ghanaian volunteers in the Bono Region (Tepa-Kwasu) of Ghana, to aid in the alleviation of the poverty in the local community by the providing alternative means to improved livelihood, quality education and maintaining good health.
She contributed to enhancing the literacy skills of pupils in the Kwasu Community School. She planned, organized, and participated in awareness raising events to promote Girl Child Education, Environmental Sanitation and fight against Teenage Pregnancy and School Drop-outs in the Community.
In addition, she organized and trained community children in creative arts activities and installed the ‘TIPPY TAP’ hand washing device to encourage hand washing and promote good sanitation at the Helins Int. School in the Kwasu community. She led and facilitated skills training sessions for the women and youth in the community.
She fundraised to provide Teaching and Learning Materials to support rural Teaching in the Metsrikasa D/A Basic School in the Volta Region as an Action At Home (AAH) project at the end of her volunteering program with VSO.
With this goal in mind, Portia founded a Non- profit Organization called the Development Through Arts and Literacy (DTA) charity that aims at ensuring that children in low income schools and communities get equal opportunity to education through club initiatives that discover and harness artistic talents, giving them exposure to various art forms and providing the local community women and youth with vocational skills, for financial independence.
Her Project DTA idea was born when she joined the train of impactful leaders on the Lead For Ghana leadership development program.
Portia is together with her team, currently building a three unit Literacy and Arts Development center , to serve as a bigger library space, computer lab, and a skills training center, in the Ave-Posmonu community school.(Ave-Posmonu D/A JHS).
EDUCATION COMMUNITY (EDUCOM) AWARDS started in London on 2010 was launch in Ghana in 2015 by Africa Education Gateway to celebrate education excellence in Africa.
