The newly opened Christian Science Reading Room at 14 SW Nye St. in Newport announces that it is holding Tuesday sessions at noon for reading the weekly lesson from the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. This session each week includes an in-depth look at a timely topic based on passages from the Bible and from Science and Health.
On Thursdays, at 1 p.m., the Reading Room hosts a Children’s Bible Story Time, which includes reading aloud familiar Bible stories from picture books, such as Joseph and his brothers, the story of Ruth, and Nehemiah building the wall. The librarian will briefly talk about the lessons each story brings out, the spiritual ideas about loving your brothers and sisters, and God’s care, protection and goodness in people’s lives.
The Christian Science Reading Room is a public space hosted by Christian Science Society of Newport, a branch of The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston, Massachusetts. Church services are Sundays at 10 a.m., and Sunday School at 9 a.m. for children through age 19. The Reading Room is open Monday through Thursday, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. For more information, call 541-265-2869 or email at cssnewport@gmail.com.
