The University Students Association of Ghana (USAG) calls on government to use 2 days to address the current nationwide strike by the University Teacher’s Association of Ghana (UTAG) and the Universities Senior Staff Association.

The strike action which started on Monday August 2, 2021, includes University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) and the Senior Staff Association of Ghana (SSA-UoG).

The Senior Staff Association- Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) wants the government to address the “worsening” conditions of service of its members, while University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) wants the government to implement the service conditions agreed upon in 2012.

USAG in a press release signed by the President, Christian Philip Armah, expressed their worries about the current strike action by UTAG and the Universities Senior Staff if the current strike action persists and therefore has called on the government to take the two Unions plight very serious as both Unions stated it in their press release that, the government has not shown seriousness and has not demonstrated good faith in their dealings in the negotiation process.

Christian Philip Armah, President of USAG, addressed a press conference and urged the two striking unions to reconsider their actions and return to work.

The Students Union is concerned that if the strike continues, students’ academic work would suffer.

Christian Philip Armah also urged students not to put their studies on hold as a result of the strike.

He urged students to stay calm and focused on their academics as the two strikers’ issues were handled and also charged all Students Representative Councils (SRCs) at the various institutions to be responsive to the needs, and concerns of students in these critical times.
