Every year vulnerable parents fall into the trap of smart unofficial SHS Placement Consultants. They collect heavy sums of money with the promise of securing certain SHS admissions for their children.
In a letter cited by School World Media, Management of Ghana Education Service (GES) has proactively alerted the general public that preparations are ongoing for the release of Senior High School Placement for the 2023/24 academic year and should therefore not fall prey to any connection men.
In the letter signed by the head of Public Relations Unit of GES, Cassandra Twum Ampofo, it said “Management strongly cautions the general public NOT to fall prey to deceitful persons that may approach them to pay money for a place in SHS. Such persons are to be reported immediately to the Police”.
The letter continued to advise the general public “to beware of fake news portals and instead follow GES official social media handles; Facebook (ges.gov.gh), Twitter (@gheduservice), Instagram (@gheduservice) and website (ges.gov.gh) for credible information”.
When School World Media reached out to parents for their views one parent had this to say “as long as there is a limited number of high quality delivering SHS provisions in the country, there will always be a mass scramble for placement. The country needs more Grade A listed schools in the likes of Achimota, Wesley Girls, Mfantsipim etc. Until then the vulnerable Ghanaian parent will continue to be a victim when it comes to matters of SHS admissions”.
